If the multitalented
Tommy Davidson hasn't been quite as visible since the groundbreaking sketch-comedy show
In Living Color went off the air, he's been no less busy. In addition to featured roles in
Booty Call,
Woo and
Juwanna Mann, as well as a seriocomic turn in Spike Lee's
Bamboozled, Davidson spent five seasons voicing beleaguered patriarch Oscar Proud in the Disney Channel's animated series
The Proud Family. Later this year, he'll appear in the comedic blaxploitation homage
Black Dynamite and in Cedric the Entertainer's directorial debut,
Chicago Pulaski Jones. He'll also tape a stand-up special for Comedy Central and voice a lead role in Will Smith's new animated series. First, though, the well-traveled Davidson, a USO-tour favorite, brings his act to KC, opening a four-night stand tonight at 7:30 at the Kansas City Improv (7430 Northwest 87th Street in Zona Rosa).
