This is the Hollywood version of a grubby all-night diner. Glamorous touches abound, from the curved-glass display cases loaded with glossy desserts to the wooden floors painted in a checkerboard pattern and the retro-style furnishings. The food is slightly more upscale than most traditional diner fare, though the simpler dishes outclass the fancy stuff. (The beer-battered prawns, for example, look and taste prefabricated.) The good stuff is the blue-plate-special kind of fare youd want to in a diner anyway: hefty burgers, tender ribs, a surprisingly decent slab of prime rib and excellent desserts. Breakfast is available all day, too. — Charles Ferruzza
