Fiesta On

Mexico is far too often maligned as America's underdeveloped neighbor to the south. And the country's intercartel strife and constant pandering from protectionist U.S. politicians are hot topics for the media. So perhaps a chance to festively recapture all that's great about Mexico is in order.Luckily, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City can help. This weekend, the group sponsors Fiesta Kansas City, a celebration of Mexican heritage and culture at Crown Center Pavilion (2450 Grand). The event runs from 5 to 11 tonight, so don't miss the chance to check out more than 100 vendors, the Hispanic Hall of Fame Museum, daily musical performances from award-winning artists, and the famed Margarita Cove (where you can vote for Kansas City's best margarita). Admission is free, and the action continues tomorrow from noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. For more information, see fiestakc.com.
Fri., May 9, 5-10 p.m.; Sat., May 10, 12-11 p.m.; Sun., May 11, 12-10 p.m., 2008
