Find Your Red Carpet

Burned microwave popcorn, and no one but the cat to share predictions with, may explain why you're not amped up for the 83rd annual Academy Awards. Well, climb out of the recliner and hit a local Oscar watch party, where the screen is bound to be bigger and where lucky guesses could yield an award on Hollywood's biggest night of the year. Local film geeks Eric Melin and Matt Larson host Scene-Stealers.com's Oscars Watch Party Potluck at Crosstown Station (1522 McGee, 816-471-1522). Festivities include prizes and a red carpet. Dress as your favorite celebrity and bring some snacks to share. Admission is free, and the party starts at 6 p.m. For fancier hors d'oeuvres, blow your wad at AMC Mainstreet 6 (1400 Main). Variety, the Children's Charity of Greater Kansas City, presents a live telecast of the Oscars. The fundraiser includes a silent auction and raffles. Admission is $75 per person or $125 per couple. (Members of Young Variety get in for $20.) That's a lot, but Brangelina would want you to do it for the babies. Doors open at 6 p.m. See varietykc.org or call 913-558-2309 for tickets.— Crystal K.
