Students in the art of fronting a band have two reasons to go to Lawrence tonight: Karen Orzolek and Finn Andrews. Karen O., as we know her, is the lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which will surely sell out The Granada (1020 Massachusetts, 785-842-1390). The howlin art-school grad reinvented the hipster-rock-girl persona with her custom-made outfits and hyper-active, almost desexualized antics. Meanwhile, Andrews, the charming frontman for New Zealand-via-London band the Veils, recently reinvented the encore. After a poorly attended show at the Grand Emporium in June at which the PA malfunctioned, the dauntless kiwi took his acoustic guitar into the womens bathroom for an almost awkwardly intimate finale (see photo). Tonight, his band will almost certainly not sell out the Replay Lounge (946 Massachussetts, 785-749-7676), despite the meager $2 cover. Anyone who stumbles into the show is bound to be impressed by the Veils dark, intense, preacherman take on doleful, Americana-themed rock.
