The Kansas City T-Bones have always relied on a reductive marketing campaign. Instead of watching the Royals play whats essentially minor-league baseball, the
T-Bones implicitly ask, Why not watch the real thing for less money?
The T-Bones open their season tonight at 7:05, beginning their 2007 Northern League campaign with a four-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers at Community America Ballpark (1800 Village West Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas). The Northern League is like baseballs version of a good tribute band: Its a reasonable facsimile of Major League Baseball. Referred to as an outlaw league because of its lack of affiliation with MLB, the Northern League is famous for its idiosyncratic promotions. This year is no exception. Friday is Star Wars night, and the T-Bones will reduce ticket prices for anyone dressed as a character from the films. And nothing goes together like a baseball game, a warm spring evening and a Boba Fett costume. Tickets range from $8.50 to $14.50; half-price for wookiees on Friday. Call 913-328-2255.
