The Grand Old Lady of 12th Street opened in 1900 as a rollicking vaudeville and burlesque house. By the ´60s, the place had begun to slip in attendance and show its age, and it was almost torn down. Today, 25 years after the renovated Folly reopened to rave reviews, the venue houses a wide range of events, including ballet, the symphony and straight-up rock-and-roll shows. The Folly’s gilded feel and spacious ceilings – not to mention its lobby full of black-and-white photos depicting entertainers of the theater’s golden age – lend historic gravity to one of the city’s premier stages.
