Brevity is not only the soul of wit but also a critical ingredient in short films. Today, the YWCA of Greater Kansas City spotlights local artists who get right to the point, presenting more than a dozen short independent films — some socially conscious, some with local flavor, some evocative, some provocative, others intended simply as entertainment — at the second-annual
KCK Film Fest. Screening from 2 to 5 p.m. at the YWCA's Black Box Theatre (1017 North Sixth Street in Kansas City, Kansas, 913-371-1105), the festival includes four offerings apiece from Anthony Ladesich and horror aficionado Patrick Rea, plus entries from Brian Kille, James Schweers, artist Julia Vering-Young, muralist John Bonifacio Moreno, UMKC assistant professor Daven Gee, and visutal artist and instructor Bill McDevitt.
