Free Ride

Serious bicyclists may enjoy rough terrain and long distances. For the rest of us: How about a nice, leisurely ride through a pocket of nature inside the city limits? This morning at 9, that’s the kind of free bike ride that Shey Bergman, education specialist at the Gorman Conservation Discovery Center, will lead along Brush Creek. Cruise the Creek begins and ends at the Discovery Center (4750 Troost). “We thought we’d have a nice way to connect people to the creek and see that it’s not quite so bad as its reputation,” Bergman tells the Pitch. The ride, which runs less than five miles and traverses the paved trail by the creek and part of the Trolley Trail, should wrap up no later than 10:30 a.m. and is open to all ages. “We just want to keep it real easy,” Bergman says. Back at the Discovery Center, riders will get refreshments and look at an old model of Brush Creek. “We’ll talk about how the creek has changed over the years,” Bergman says. Riders must provide their own bikes and helmets. For more information, call 816-759-7300. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center
