Restaurant Details

Several restaurants in the United States are named after the iconic artist Frida Kahlo (1907-54). But this Overland Park venue is serious about incorporating Kahlo’s creative sensibilities into the cuisine and its visual presentation. This is not a traditional American Mexican restaurant - there aren’t any Tex-Mex burritos, crispy tacos or fajitas on the menu. There are tacos, but they’re tacos de cochinita, made with soft tortillas and pork marinated in lime juice, roasted in achiote and orange juice, and topped with red onions steeped in lime juice, oregano and habañero chiles. Most of the fare is dramatic and memorable, like its namesake. — Charles Ferruzza
