On the south end of Troost, G's Jamaican Quisine serves up jerk chicken, meat pies, Red Stripe and world beats seven days a week. A popular open-mic night and reggae bands bring in customers late, while lunch specials get folks in the door early. The open dining room also serves as a dance floor, flanked by two giant speaker stacks. It's a brightly lit spot in an otherwise dreary end of the neighborhood. Charismatic owner and proprietor George G Ricketts runs a tight ship. I came over from Jamaica on a plane, not a banana boat, he says. We're not cool enough to know what that means, but we love it.
