Gaelic Storm

Saturday, August 30, at Kansas City Irish Fest, Berkley Riverfront Park, First Street and Grand.

Millions of movie fans have heard Gaelic Storm without realizing it, because this was the band that helped Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio whirl below decks in Titanic. Based on the sunny shores of California, this Celtic ensemble incorporates instruments such as bodhran, fiddle, accordion and mandolin into its acoustic variations. Singer Patrick Murphy possesses a pure Irish tenor, and his ballads will jerk out a tear or two. Still, with songs such as "Drink the Night Away" and "After Hours at McCann's" (there's a pattern here), the group should satisfy anyone headed to Kansas City's first Irish Festival to get in -- and watch -- a bit o' the dance.
