This was the first dining room that St. Louis-born restaurateur (and occasional actor) Michael Garozzo opened in 1989. After a bungled burglary and, in 2003, a fire that nearly destroyed the building, he gave the first-floor restaurant an attractive face-lift. Customers still pack the place for Garozzos signature chicken spiedini dishes, fresh fish, hearty pastas and bowls heaped with tender — and inexpensive — pork neckbones. — Charles Ferruzza

My husband and I ate for the last time at the Overland Park, KS Garozzo's. Having lived downtown for years we ate at the original location about once every two weeks. After moving to Overland Park we tried their location several times with much disappointment. The Tortellini Gina (which my husband normally orders) is not the same you would get from the downtown location, not near as good. Though I can't pinpoint exactly what it is missing. I always order the Linguine Alla Frutti di Mare and with a price tag of $18.99 you would expect it to have some flavor. I was disappointed with the very soupy, bland sauce and unseasoned seafood. The scallops and shrimp tasted as if they had been boiled in unseasoned water, yuck!! I know why there was no waiting to be seated at 7pm on a Saturday night!! No waiting to be seated on a weekend is always a sign you shouldn't be eating at a restaurant.

I dont understand why the previous reviewer was so hard on Garozzo's Ristorante. The Garlic is not in everything and Mike has always showed great class in serving an excellent meal. The Waiters and waitress have always been friendly and kind every time Ive ate there. Atmosphere and music in the background just makes you feel good.
Hey Rumson, you just have never tasted true Italian food, not all of the red gravy is sweet at Garozzos. Funny I have ate at other so called Italian restaurants and have even tasted garlic on the bread and water, but not here. I recommend this place to everyone, its cozy relaxing and great food.

If you like garlic, I mean a LOT of garlic, and very sweet red sauces with garlic (and did I mention a LOT of garlic) and slightly over-cooked pasta in large quantities heavy on the sweet and GARLIC, this is your kind of Italian.
Where I grew up this was called Immigrant Italian and the style is really a lot more Sicilian than Italian but if you like pasta with red sauce that is very sweet and is coated in Garlic, you will like this place.
Dracula will stay away so you will be safe from vampires. And if any family members do not dine with you I really suggest you send them away for 24 hours or risk having them collapse from your GARLIC breath.
I bet this restaurant uses more garlic per serving than any other restaurant in the city, or even the state.
Did they buy garlic cheap or just confuse cloves with heads in the recipe?
But teh sauce is sweet you can skip desert.
And the signature Chicken Spedini is dry and has a lot of garlic too.
