Finding the city of Platte Woods can be tricky because it occupies less than 0.4 square mile of land. Locating the city’s only drinking establishment, Gator’s VIII, can be even more difficult because it’s tucked away in a strip mall that’s perpendicular to the street. However, this fairly large bar and grill draws decent crowds during the daylight hours – mainly local commuters who detour off Interstate 29 for cold beer, huge pork-tenderloin sandwiches and plenty of nearby ashtrays. Slightly depressing and rather devoid of young people, but completely nonjudgmental, Gator’s VIII is an appropriate place to escape life and drink away the day while smoking and playing shuffleboard.
