Gomez

Sunday, October 10, at the Beaumont Club.

Probably best known as the band that covered the Beatles' "Getting Better" for the Phillips commercials a few years back, British five-piece Gomez has managed to slip under the American radar for years. Switching among three lead singers and combining heavy blues with indie pop and a hint of granola, the band's latest offering, Split the Difference, revisits the Southern rock roots that earned it the Mercury Music Prize for best album with its 1998 debut, Bring It On. Looking like a postpubescent Harry Potter, frontman Ben Ottewell's gravelly voice accounts for the band's signature sound, which makes these Liverpool lads sound like they hail from the Mississippi Delta. Instead, Gomez is the best thing to happen to England since boiled meat.
