As the history books tell it, Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the second century B.C.E. In other words — partay! Kehilath Israel Synagogue (10501 Conser in Overland Park, 913-642-1880) kicks off the Jewish holiday season tonight at 8 with a pre-Hanukkah party. The shindig is called Baby, You Can Spin My Dreidel
and features Lawrence DJ duo Ebony & Ivory (Dan Benson and Brad Shanks) and donated music from JDub Records. The former are known for their vinyl doses of '60s bubble-gum pop and karaoke standards (code phrase: "Dance together forever!"). The latter are among the leading purveyors of cross-cultural Jewish music such as DeLeon and Balkan Beat Box. Tickets cost $5 per person or $9 for two. Young professionals ages 21 and older are encouraged to attend. Reserve in advance at email@example.com
