Valerie Steele, named by the
New York Daily News as one of "Fashion's 50 Most Powerful," is here — specifically, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (4525 Oak, 816-751-1278) — to give a free lecture from 1 to 2 p.m. Naturally, the topic of Steele's talk is "Chanel and Her Rivals: Fashion in the Age of Steichen." To translate for those who aren't, like Steele, the director and chief curator of New York's Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, she's focusing on the iconic Coco Chanel during the 1920s and '30s, when photographer Edward Steichen snapped her looks for
Vogue and
