Halloweenie Roast

Sunday, October 17, at the Uptown Theater.

There ain't a damned thing youthful about Sonic Youth anymore. But that doesn't mean the New York quintet has gone soft on us. Sonic Youth was poised for a popularity boost when it was tapped for a high-profile Lollapalooza outing this year, only to see the tour scrapped for lack of ticket sales. Undeterred, the group issued an uncompromising new album (Sonic Nurse) and hit the road like a band twenty years its junior, easing up on the otherworldly performance art even as its devotion to free-flowing feedback strengthened. This radio station one-off with fellow indie vet P.J. Harvey and upstarts Dresden Dolls (pictured) and the Music also opens the door for the Youth to serve KC one of the year's best shows.
