Have Mercy

Tonight at 8, there’s a rumble in the Crossroads at Grinders (417 East 18th Street). Now in its third year, Summerbrawl is giving Children’s Mercy Hospital a full nelson of love. This year’s Headlocks and Health Care is a benefit for the hospital, and we can’t think of a better testosterone-fueled entertainment sport to raise ducats for kiddies. Well, maybe dudes jousting on Bengal tigers and eating Buffalo wings, but that’s not practical. Tonight’s main event finds Summerbrawl veteran the Sheik dukin’ it out with WWF local boy “Hacksaw” Butch Reed. Old-school WWF enthusiasts remember Reed as the former tag-team partner of good guy Junk Yard Dog, who turned heel after a run-in with slightly more famous “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. Other matches include Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s Jay Lethal and KC’s own cruisin’ bruisers, the Roller Warriors, who lose the skates and get it on in a battle royale. Although they won’t be stepping into the ring, the Chiefs Cheerleaders and the presumably hot American Bikini Champion will be on hand to root for tonight’s wrasslers. Ringside seats cost $15, general admission costs $10, and kids 12 and younger get in for $5. Purchase tickets at Grinders or at the door. For information, call 913-432-4528.
