After 30 years on the Plaza, the flagship Houlihans — the one that spawned a casual-dining empire — was ejected in 2002 to make room for a trendier chain restaurant. Houlihans landed in the cozy, clubby spot that was once the Fairway Grill. The menu carries plenty of signature dishes from the days when Houlihans was considered sexy and stylish, though its now mostly a middle-class-neighborhood watering hole. Service is hit-and-miss, and some of the creative creations are clunkers, but the simpler fare is tasty and modestly priced. — Charles Ferruzza
