How's Your Bird?

It's one of those bits of useless information that pops up in a game of Trivial Pursuit or on the back of a laminated menu in some greasy spoon: Ben Franklin wanted the turkey to be our national bird, not the bald eagle. And that was probably the last time an American was kind to a turkey. And, apparently, it no longer is enough that we devour millions of the birds on Thanksgiving. No, today we go a step further and actually hurl their headless corpses down the ice into wooden pins for fun. With children and a snowball fight afterward! What is wrong with us? It's called Turkey Bowling when the dead poultry rolls from 2:15 to 3 p.m. at the Line Creek Community Center & Ice Arena (5940 Northwest Waukomis Drive). If bowling isn't your thing, there's ice skating from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission costs $5 and includes skate rental. For more information, call 816-513-0760.
