North Carolina literary magazine The Main Street Rag has exported an edgy brand of poetry, fiction and writer interviews since 1996. Here in Kansas City, the Rag is co-sponsoring a monthly poetry reading with the Writers Place (3607 Pennsylvania, 816-753-1090). Rag co-founder Shawn Pavey says, “We want to promote poets who are writing strong work but may not be associated with a university or maybe don’t have a book deal.” The readings happen at the Writers Place each third Sunday at 7 p.m. Tonight’s show includes Pavey and Kansas City poets Allen Heinrich and Rachel Waterhouse, of the Opus performance poetry group. A $5 donation is requested.
Third Sunday of every month, 7 p.m., 2007
