Java-Fueled Shopping

Today, the caffeine supplier at 5400 Troost turns into a crafts and fashion flea market. Local vendors will set up shop in Coffee Break’s parking lot to sell handmade, imported and vintage clothing, accessories and more. The monthly event is called MarketPlace; it happens every second Saturday from April through October. “We wanted to showcase local vendors and provide something for the community to do,” Coffee Break Manager Kim Lovelady tells the Pitch. It’s also meant to be another reminder that “people shouldn’t be afraid to walk along Troost anymore,” Lovelady says. Among the treasures regularly available at MarketPlace: aprons decorated with skulls and crossbones, jewelry made from beads and road signs, Thai silk scarves and clothing, funky T-shirts and potholders and, of course, lots of java. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 816-363-4232 for more information. Coffee Break
Second Saturday of every month, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Starts: Aug. 11. Continues through Oct. 13, 2007
