Jazz Beat: The Project H
at the Kill Devil Club

Brass soaring over a complex rhythm line or coating a sinuous, full-bodied sax. Intricate solos flying through unconventional time. It's unusual to find original jazz compositions as compelling and entertaining as those Ryan Heinlein has written for the Project H. It's also unusual to find a trombone in a small jazz ensemble in KC these days. But Heinlein's trombone, Clint Ashlock's trumpet and Brett Jackson's tenor sax mesh and merge and support one another, consistently delivering the right combination and the ideal voice. Andrew Ouellette's keyboards weave through the compositions, with Dominque Sanders' bass and Matt Leifer's driving drums. The group brings its special jazz sound to the Kill Devil Club in the Power & Light District Saturday night.
