Jimmy's Jigger on 39th Street and State Line has been a neighborhood institution since 1933, catering to a steady flow of KU Med Center students and staff and community regulars, as well as a nightly spillover from Jazz, the Cajun restaurant next door. It's not out of the ordinary to see people wearing scrubs and people falling over drunk – or both at the same time. Thankfully, there's always something to catch your eye, such as the graffiti on the walls or the carvings in the tables, while you wait (sometimes quite awhile) for service. The best part about this place? When the cocktails and people watching grow stale, the full menu is available from next door.
