Johnny Winter

Monday, June 19, at Knuckleheads Saloon

Nobody who saw Johnny Winter at Woodstock or 20 years ago at Westport's Lone Star guessed he'd make it this long, even with "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" and his pre-Stevie Ray guitar lightning to keep him going. Onstage, his albinism and plain ol' skinniness made his tattoo-covered body — done way before people did that sort of thing — look like a climactic cymbal crash might blast him offstage. But Winter has always been deceptively durable. Last year's I'm a Bluesman (with occasional acoustic turns) received a Grammy nomination, and last fall he and his brother, Edgar (of "Frankenstein" fame), received the perfect career accolade: induction into the Southeast Texas "Walk of Fame" in their Beaumont hometown. He might just outlast us all.
