The Great Mall of the Great Plains lies in a vast suburban landscape, surrounded by hospitals, budget lodgings and 24-hour restaurants. The mall opened in 1997 and has since been sold, leaving outlet stores, Topsy’s, and a sports bar and restaurant called JR’s Place. Open daily until 2 a.m., JR’s has inexpensive food and drink specials, pool tables, a dance floor, two huge projection TVs (often used to show UFC events and karaoke lyrics). This 18-and-over, high-ceilinged, wide-open establishment tends to get a little loud when there’s live music or karaoke, but the noise can easily be ignored or embraced as the young, attractive servers (they take orders via PDA) keep the cheap beer and shots coming.
