KC Hip-Hop and Punk Show

Wednesday, May 31, at Valhalla Gallery (1219 Union).

Like bastard twins separated at birth, hip-hop and punk rock have always had an unspoken connection. Both were born in the same era but wound up in different boroughs, so it's nice to see the two come together locally. For starters, C.E.S. Cru (pictured) and Anti-Crew should feel right at home around a punk audience. Both hip-hop outfits bring it loud and aggressive with a DIY philosophy. Rounding out the lineup are Outlaw, who will be joining the Vans Warped Tour in July, and the female four-piece Crap Corps. Five bucks for four acts is a bargain, and this event is skateboard-friendly, so thrash your Nash down to the West Bottoms Wednesday. <
