KCRTA Modern Streetcar Party

When: Tue., Aug. 23, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. 2011
The Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance wants to show the city the future of streetcar transportation. Beginning at 7 a.m. at Union Station, the KCRTA and the Downtown Corridor Alternatives Analysis (AA) will give a sneak peek at a modern streetcar alternative that is being considered as an option for a narrow two-mile corridor running from the River Market on the north, through the Central Business District and the Crossroads areas to Union Station and Crown Center on the south.

Beginning at 7 a.m., Mayor Sly James and Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders will board the streetcar. At 8 a.m., the public is invited to tour the streetcar until 5:30 p.m. in front of Union Station. Those who do this will receive a discounted lunch coupon good at select Union Station restaurants the day of the event.

From 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., KC Wolf will be on hand for a meet-and-greet and live radio broadcast.

At 6 p.m., Quixotic will perform a free transportation-themed show for the public.
