Back in Michigan, before he was famous, Kid Rock's reputation as a whoring drunk wasn't any better than it is today — except now he's banging porn stars instead of trailer trash. He was just some white rapper from the sticks who had a feud with the Insane Clown Posse that made fans take East Coast/West Coastlike stands. Every once in a while, a whiff of country would pop up in his work, but no one expected the full-blown country-rock conversion he's undergone. That's because Rock's genius is genre-blindness, unwilling to ever imagine there's something he can't do with his music. And there probably isn't.
