KU to MU: Puck You

Fans of the 1996 Adam Sandler flick Happy Gilmore can tell you that his flame-tempered wannabe hockey player (who becomes a golf pro) was booted off the ice for trying to stab someone with the blade of his skate. For many in the metro, the athletic rivalry between the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri inspires a similar sort of ire. But because stabbing your rival is frowned upon, KU and Mizzou fans should stick to cheering their teams to victory when the Jayhawks take on the Tigers at the Men's Hockey Border Showdown. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at the Independence Events Center (19100 East Valley View Parkway), but fans can arrive early for the 4:45 p.m. junior varsity game. Buy tickets ($14-$32) through ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Ali Kemp Educational Foundation.— Angela Lutz
