Restaurant Details

This popular neighborhood cantina in Platte City won’t win any awards for its décor – the storefront restaurant has a rambling, melon-colored dining room decorated with sombreros – but the food is excellent and inexpensive. Shredded-pork chile verde is as authentic as you’ll find in the Midwest, chile rellenos are big and spicy, tender carnitas are simmered in orange and garlic and served with soft tortillas and sliced avocados. For lovers with big appetites, Maria’s offers the Parrillada Mexicana, a sizzling platter for two, loaded with slices of sautéed beef, chicken, shrimp, carnitas and chorizo. You may be too full to make amor afterward, but you’ll be satisfied otherwise.
