Dont let the word diner throw you off Masalas is the prettiest, most glamorous Indian restaurant in the metro, boasting handblown Italian-glass light fixtures, lush upholstery and beautiful tile floors. It also has the biggest, shiniest, most elaborate buffet setup in the city. The food is impressive as well. The owner imported chefs from top Indian restaurants in other cities who are such perfectionists that they roast their own spices. A number of unusual dishes round out more familiar fare such as butter chicken, curry and tandoori dishes. Bread offerings include the paper-thin crepelike dosas and savory fried lentil doughnuts (medu vada) that can be eaten with a variety of tasty chutneys.

Despite claims of great Indian cuisine, I found the food marginal compared to others in the Kansas City area. Food quality aside, though, I was shocked this evening when the owner (or manager) chastised and berated his employees while guests were dining. Never in all my restaurant experiences have I ever witnessed such bad judgement on the part of the management. The owner may have had good cause to give his employees a yelling, but he clearly exercised poor judgement in choosing the dining area as the venue for discipline. I will never patronize this place again nor will I ever recommend Masalas to any friends or colleagues.

Way overpriced buffet- more hype than substance. We had to dig through the sauces to find meat. They tout the biggest buffet in KC- obviously they have not eaten at any of their competitors! It was almost $30 for two for lunch for only buffet and chai, no booze. A big waste of $$. How can tandoori chicken be greasy if it is properly cooked?
