Metal Mark Mathison, aka SCSI Bunny, is doing something that a lot of DJs wish they could do: Make a living off playing records. On his DJ grind, Mathison travels all over the area, from Westport to Lawrence, nearly every night of the week, paying the bills with just his CDJs, turntables and iPods. Mathison makes little attempt to mix, but that's understandable when a lot of the music he plays has live drums (we're not saying it can't be done). On Sundays at Buzzard Beach, you'll find Mathison playing metal, punk, classic rock, and a little dirty hip-hop to a crowd in which 70 percent of the people are wearing black and/or are tattooed from their necks to their knuckles. One out-of-towner described the vibe as reminiscent of the movie From Dusk Till Dawn.
