The four prominent poets featured this year in the
Midwest Poets Series have been both national and regional writers, which is characteristic of this series' lineups. Opening the season last October was powerhouse Robert Bly, who was followed by prize-winning poet and UMKC professor Michelle Boisseau. Missouri's first poet laureate, Walter Bargen, appeared in January. Not to be outdone, MU professor
Aliki Barnstone comes to Kansas City tonight for the fourth and final event of the 2011–12 series. The poet, translator, critic, editor, visual artist
and two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee did research in Greece in 2006 as a Fulbright Scholar, resulting in a group of poems in the voice of a Sephardic Jew and Holocaust survivor. She reads at 7 p.m. at Rockhurst University's Mabee Theater, in Sedgwick Hall (1100 Rockhurst Road), followed by a book signing and reception. Admission is a mere $3 at the door, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. For more information, see
