Dance is a loaded word that encompasses the movements of toddlers in tutus, the trained leaps of professional artists, and the highly regulated undulations of strippers. With little girls who imitate pop stars who imitate strippers, the slope gets slippery enough that the premise of Footloose can actually become plausible. The Rev. Shaw Moores of Kansas City needn't worry about the 8 p.m. performance at the Folly Theater (300 West 12th Street), though. A Modern Night at the Folly
promises not to be too devilish. The production represents an eight-year tradition for the family-oriented City In Motion Dance Theater, which provides venues throughout the year to local choreographers and dancers. Modern Night features the work of more than 10 choreographers. Call the Folly at 816-474-4444 or see ticketmaster.com
for tickets, which run $18 in advance ($15 for students and seniors) or $20 at the door.
