Monday night chess
Brain Burn

When: Mondays, 7 p.m.

Price: free; free
If Alekhine’s Gun, Ruy Lopez, Blitzkreig, Backward Pawn or King Hunt mean anything to you — or if you just want to try your hand at the world’s oldest board game — you’ll fit right in amid the soft couches and tiny wooden tables at Aimee’s Coffee Shop (1035 Massachusetts in Lawrence). Each Monday night at 7, chess champs duel and beginners learn the original gamers’ game. Matches can last for hours or just a few minutes; some folks bring out the timers in order to whiz through a few rounds of speed chess. Either way, the lively atmosphere and intellectual stimulation warm the brain and the body when the wind blows cold outside. Call Brady at 785-230-5386 for more information.
