Music + Good Deeds

Name your favorite local band. Easy, right? Now, name your favorite local charity. Stumped for an answer? Tonight at 7, the Center for Social Justice and Environmental Sustainability at William Jewell College hopes that some Kansas City musicians will help change that equation. The Rock Out Reach Out event at Crosstown Station (1522 McGee, 816-471-1522) is a doubleheader of sorts. Downstairs, five popular bands, including the Abracadabras and Namelessnumberheadman, will do the rocking out. Upstairs, 14 nonprofits, such as the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture, will talk about their efforts to improve the community. At the door, partygoers will assign their cover charge ($5 advance, $10 day of show) to one of the represented charities. Community service has never been so easy. For more information on this 21-and-older event, see rockoutreachout.org.
