New Digs

The former 39th Street Community Market has a new name and a new location. Having previously operated in a small parking lot in front of a 39th Street coffeehouse, this neighborhood marketplace specializing in locally grown, sustainably produced vegetables, fruits, honey, eggs and organic beef has moved to a larger space at the northwest corner of Westport Road and Wyoming, which precipitated a name change -- the weekly event is now called the Westport Plaza Farmers Market. There's not only additional space for vendors but also more room for customers to wander amid the array of jams, jellies, honey, flowers, beef, sauces and salsas, nondairy cheeses and more. The market still operates from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday and still requires its farmers to sign an impressive pledge that requires a great deal of personal responsibility and concern for the environment.
Wednesdays, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Starts: May 12. Continues through Oct. 6, 2010
