Tucked behind Chilis restaurant, New Peking became Westports glamour Asian-food spot when it opened in the 1980s. Now the turquoise-and-mauve lobby and the mirrored dining rooms deécor seem a little dated, but the food is still glamorous (though inexpensive). This place still packs in customers because of its little touches, such as the sauces — hot chile or soy steeped in garlic and herbs — that accompany the excellent steamed dumplings. The family dinners are generous, and solo diners who are wary of just sitting there and eating can pick up a TWA in-flight magazine from the stack near the entrance. — Charles Ferruzza
