Pakistan native Irfan Rafi must have had a vision when he took over a long-neglected location formerly occupied by several greasy all-night diners. Now the place is a formal dining room with draperies, swags, tassels, artificial roses, watercolors in gilded frames and a mannequin bedecked with baubles and beads. Amid all this, Rafi serves both Indian and Pakistani fare, including light, puffy breads and tender meats cooked in the white-hot clay tandoor ovens. Unlike more traditional Indian restaurants, Rafis restaurant offers beef and an array of goat dishes. And the lunch buffet is well-stocked with a variety of tasty offerings a good beginners lesson in Pakistani cuisine.
