Next Generation Jazz Summit

Young jazz musicians and spoken-word artists from Kansas City and the nation get their turn to listen, learn and play live at the Next Generation Jazz Summit. The American Jazz Musuem is the host for this two-day event, which will include roundtables, master classes and live performances in the Blue Room. The lineup will feature area jazz ensembles, the KCMO National Teen Poetry Slam Team and the Monterey Jazz Festival's Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. The idea: Promote students' potential and highlight the need for performance and education. The live shows in the Blue Room are free and open to the public, but donations are welcome to support the Poetry Team's trip to Chicago to participate in Brave New Voices, an international youth poetry slam. Special guests include Bobby Watson, director of jazz studies at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. For more info, go to americanjazzmuseum.org or call 816-474-8463.
