No Juice Boxing

You don’t have to be a fan of the Tour de France to know that the world of professional cycling is embroiled in doping scandals these days. Fortunately, scandals have yet to infiltrate the world of the leisurely and altruistic cyclist — benefit rides remain unscathed by scandal and are fun to boot. Example: today’s 9 a.m. AIDS Bicycle Challenge, a fundraiser presented by the AIDS Service Foundation. Open to individuals and families of all skill levels, the event is an opportunity to participate in a 10-, 18- or 35-mile ride along the Mill Creek Streamway Trail in Shawnee. The ride starts at the Barker Road Access Point (5946 Barker in Shawnee). All proceeds go to the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City, which helps raise awareness and funding for local AIDS service organizations. For information or to register, see aidswalkkansascity.org/ride or call 816-931-0959.
