Just remember this: North is south. Its also one of the noisiest restaurants in the metro, so consider that if youre planning a night of good food and stimulating conversation. The owners of this cool, hip, casual trattoria (Arizona-based Fox Restaurant Concepts) dont want their sunny, raucous dining room to be anything like a traditional Italian restaurant and it isnt, although the menu includes thin-crust pizza, pasta and osso buco. The menu changes frequently, but most meals begin with a tiny dish of marinated olives and a basket of breads, served with an excellent neon-orange sun-dried-tomato butter. The secundo courses, such as grilled seafood, creamy risotto or a robust Bolognese pasta, are more than memorable, as are several pretty desserts including house-made fruit sorbetto. Chef Steven Maak insists that his sour-cherry bread pudding is the signature dolce here. — Charles Ferruzza
