Even though O’Dowd’s pays homage to James Joyce, the author of Ulysses might’ve avoided this bar, which is usually shoulder-to-shoulder on weekends. O’Dowd’s is a theme bar decorated with grandfather clocks, violins and kegs of ale; an expansive mural displaying 19th-century life in the old country colors the ceiling. We’re fond of the fish and chips, the many international beers -- served in pints, not mugs -- and the wide-ranging selection of Irish whiskey.

Restaurant Details

O’Dowd’s Little Dublin combines the upscale with the Old World, with tall booths, dim lights and mahogany tables. It has a luxurious, calming atmosphere, despite being smack in the middle of a shopping district. It owes its charm largely to live entertainment four nights a week and a large selection of Irish brews, including Guinness on tap. The menu goes off-Eire enough to include steamed mussels and strip steak alongside more traditional Irish dishes such as shepherd’s pie and corned beef and cabbage.
