Open Decks

Local bedroom DJs wondering how to break into the DJ community in Kansas City: You came to the right column. Friday at The Point, resident spinners Mr. Nuro and Bucho are opening their decks to anyone, novice or pro, who wants to play some records. It doesn't matter whether you want to make a name for yourself or simply jump into the fire known as "playing out." There are some rules, however: vinyl only, no CD mixers or laptop hookups or any other hassles. There will be 15-minute slots, and each guest can play up to three slots in a row for a possible 45-minute maximum set length. The open-decks portion of the night will be from 10 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. So if you're really serious about getting on, get there early.
