Scott Strain has an eye for rustic and industrial furniture. His wife, Nichole Strain, loves bold colors and elegant touches — it's something she says she picked up while living in South Carolina. Together, they comb salvage yards, garage sales and auctions, and then apply paint and tender loving care to breathe new life into their finds, including concrete furniture, countertops and vases. They are into, as they call it, "rethunk junk," and they sell their work at their downtown Parkville shop,
Deja' Nue. The shop also features jewelry, art and photography from local artists. They celebrate with an open-house blues jam at the shop (105 Main, Parkville, 816-746-1660 ). Delta-inspired musician Rich Berry performs, and a raffle benefits Parkville's Christmas on the River. The free event runs from 8 to 10 p.m. For more information, see the store's Facebook page.
