OUT AT THE MOVIES

Featuring entries from the United States, Canada, the Czech Republic and Israel, plus a short-film competition — and an ampersand and a plus sign — the Kansas City Gay & Lesbian Film + Video Festival lights up Westport's Tivoli Cinemas (4050 Pennsylvania) tonight, launching a full week of entertaining and provocative new features, shorts and documentaries, as well as live events and discussions. Opening-night highlights include the 7 p.m. Midwest premiere of Outrage, documentarian Kirby Dick's exposé of hypocrisy in the corridors of power, and the Ladies' Night screening of Alison Reid's debut feature The Baby Formula at 9 p.m., hosted by local filmmaker Lisa Marie Evans, who will discuss her latest project. Tickets cost $8.50 for evening screenings and $6.50 for shows before 6:30 p.m.; select events cost $3 at the door. For more information, a printable screening schedule or to order tickets online, see kcgayfilmfest.com.
