Out of Time & Space Astrology

Happy 28th Birthday, Amy Winehouse.

Virgo/Virgo Rising* (Aug 22-Sept 22): You'd think as the light wanes to the Fall Equinox next week, so would your energy. But, no, you're going against this grain of thought. With Mr. Mercury moving through your first house of personal presentation until September 25, restlessness sleeps with you. Well, sleep is what you want, and it eludes you. Practical-minded, you know to cut back on the caffeine intake and drink less alcohol as you get closer to bedtime. I've often suggested to my Virgo clients to get a 'worry chair'. A worry chair is a special chair that you sit in for approximately 10 minutes daily and energetically deposit your worries or concerns. Outside of this chair, you take life as it comes, knowing you can handle anything or anyone. However, when Mercury flits about, your active mind and mouth can become overly so and it's just too much to take on. That's precisely when your mental strength can easily turn into your weakness, hence a 'worry chair'. Bob Marley, alone?

Libra/Libra Rising* (Sep 23-Oct 22): Truly, you are the cutest sign ever. Because you're here on Earth to work out social issues of cooperation, negotiation and harmony, you tend toward being attractive. Perception, like possession, is nine-tenths of this law, spiritually speaking. What or whom you see as beautiful, you give all kinds of benefits of doubts. But what happens when your assumption of attractiveness, whether you or another, becomes repelling? You have little need to be concerned because your guardian, Venus, will be schmoozing through your sign until October 9. Meanwhile she will be deepening her resolve to get your relationships in order as she offers up her guidance as the Evening Star. Mark September 27 on your smartphone calendar; she will be harmonizing with the New Moon at sunset, if you want to share even more love or have incredible makeup sex. After being notoriously imbalanced, this is the week to do it. Just keep your cute butt making amends as needed.

Scorpio/Scorpio Rising* (Oct 23-Nov 21): My heart became heavy through the deaths of Nick Ashford and Amy Winehouse. Being born under the sign of death (you've heard the thin veil found during the days of Scorpio, right?), I thought it muy appropriate to talk to you (and it would've been Amy's 28th birthday on 9/14). And for love's sake/Each mistake you forgave/And soon both of us/Learned to trust ... lyrics from Ashford & Simpson's most commercial hit "Solid" in 1985. It is your life's lesson, forgiving the little and big things, making your closest relationship richer than King Midas. With relational (and sometimes Vacillating Venus) in Libra and your 12th house of unfinished business and past karma, you could find yourself in a fantasy of a destructive kind. Ghosts from your past entice you to bend or, worse, break present commitments. I'd like to think you've overcome your cynicism about love being a losing game (ala Amy); allow those ghosts to get to see how much you have to lose, so you'll appreciate what you have versus what you desire ...

Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising* (Nov 22-Dec 19): Been working hard, huh? You shall begin to see the results by the beginning of next week. Once identity promoting Mars blazes a fiery trail in oh-so-compatible Leo (September 18), you'll feel released from the drudgery of the past seven weeks. Spend this weekend pondering precisely which exciting experiences you want to have with one or several of your closest others. Use your long-term possibilities-seeking self to bring us along for your scintillating ride. Just make sure you cease riding any high horses. Know precisely how truth to express verbally. The nuanced road works better for you at beginning of this intense Mars cycle. For you, it is infinitely better to preach from the "Less Is More School."

Capricorn/Capricorn Rising* (Dec 21-Jan 19): What cannot be denied? Your need for integrity as it relates to your need for approval can cause you to stay up nights, when there's no need. You cannot be perfect. You cannot control every outcome. First, you must admit that you have, ahem, needs. And then you must determine which ones are legitimate. Mars (desire, passion, primal self-assertion) has been in your opposing sign of Cancer since August 3. The good time you've been having has been ephemeral, a passing mood. You do not do well with passing moods (unless you have some planets in water signs). Fortunately, the more you've squared off with those who've taken advantage, the better. This upcoming cycle of Mars into Leo (September 18-November 10) will burn away most, if not all, of your neurotic insecurities about being perfect. Although Leo is fiery, which can unsettle your pragmatically earthy ways, they like to take control (which, btw, you do not mind after you've ascertained how much Leo is willing to offer, you sly goat, you).

Aquarius/Aquarius Rising* (Jan 20-Feb 19): Back in the day, I loved the rambunctious song "The Roof Is On Fire." We used to party, scream out the lyrics about not needing no water and letting muthafuckas burn! That's right up your rebellious ass. Twenty-five years later (and out of high school), it is better to know which MF's need burnt butts and which ones do not. Know that there may be some folks who need their asses heated and then cooled with some cream or lotion. In this scenario, you are the possible pyromaniac, pharmacist, nurse. You can even have a walk-on as the massage therapist. Point? Like Capricorn (read their message after finishing yours), you have an unerring instinct regarding when folks are poised to do MAD harm. You can either be dissociated or you can advocate for these lost, unheard, huddled masses. When you dissociate, anti-social behaviors evolve exponentially, but when you advocate for others, you bring the water ... and we all cool down. In Capricorn's message (did you forget already to read it?), it is that Mars in fiery Leo that I'm giving you a solid head's up ...

Pisces/Pisces Rising (Feb 18-Mar 20): Accustomed to telling you my secrets, here's another one: Rarely can I write without music playing in the background. Today's rendition has "You Are the Universe" by the '90s group The Brand New Heavies. The lyrics concern themselves with the ever-expanding universe, what you can be or do, based on what you believe you can be or do. "I believe in you (universe) and I believe in me," or so the line goes. Your beliefs sit on a precipice. You can choose to hang near the cliff of someone else's manufactured destruction or you can back up, get some real perspective. Beliefs are cool, but they can also be extremely subjective. Go on a reporter's mission and get the facts of what others are trying (and probably too hard) to get you to believe. You won't go over the cliff, if you relax first. "If you conceive it, you can achieve it" ... other lyrics, but given the wrong set of assumptions, you can be flying through the air without a parachute. And I believe you are better than that.

Aries/Aries Rising* (Mar 21-Apr 19): Knowing how you like to be first at anything you have interest, I am going to ask you to read Pisces' message before yours. Nah. It's my column, so there! I am waiting. Got the music theme, right? The bridge in "You Are the Universe" goes like this: "you're a driver/not a passenger in life/when you're ready/you won't have to try." Other than the part about not trying, you're all over this sage sentiment. However, you must learn when no amount of beating your head against walls will open the door; it'll just open your head. So, your $64k question is: How do you know when to be a driver and when to be a passenger? Passengers choose which car they get into (at least in this story). Drivers also know when to let their intuition tell them where to go (even with GPS). Trust yourself. Trust the Universe. I've even heard there are multiple universes. If we're contemplating the possibility, it exists in some dimension. Clear the air of unresolved stuff with your siblings, neighbors, cousins (or anyone who've spouted off half-thought-out truths because you were being too defensive). In this way, you can dream up some fun stuff starting on the 18th.

Taurus/Taurus Rising* (Apr 20-May 21): Each sign motivates others in their own way. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, after all, we are talking primarily about the Sun, no? Like the music I often listen to while I write, I cook, too. I admit I have more to learn, but like those church mothers sitting in the front pew who encourage the little ones to sing (even off-key), it is important to shine unobstructed. Be increasingly open regarding where you've stuffed your feelings because you felt no one wanted to hear them, especially over the weekend. "Let it shine" does not mean you need to be the director of a scorched-earth discussion, nor its recipient. It is a partly cloudy day, at least as it relates to those "we need to talk" talks. Handling a sensitive issue now will make the next couple of months easier because you'll have a reference point of where your boundaries exist.

Gemini/Gemini Rising* (May 21-Jun 20): Finally, you sense that you can tackle that new project. After being weighed down most of this summer with more than your usual conflicting thoughts, you have begun to think you can think clearly again. Yes, you can see clearly, too (the rain is gone). This last weekend of the summer belongs to you. Use your considerable charms to maneuver whichever tide you desire to flow your way. It is not a selfishness I'm espousing, more of a "I've returned to my truer self, so let's celebrate!" Your gifts become fully apparent through your wit and imagining your world as you'd like it to be while the other part of you keeps focused on how it really is. So, actually you can become, for a spell, the real integrated person who knows how to get the brass ring!

Cancer/Cancer Rising* (Jun 21-July 21): Your life can center on whatever brings you the most emotional security. Feeling securities are extremely subjective, so it is difficult for this stargazer to even begin to hazard a guess. Any substance outside of yourself can be ripe for over-attachment. Use these last days of summer to take inventory of what you feel you have (it's yours, and nobody had better disturb) and what you feel you're missing (oh, I long for ... ). Can't help but tell you the song "I've Cried for You" is playing inside my world as I write this. The lyrics continue to speak to the fact that it is the one who broke your heart; it is their turn to cry over you. First, know your worth. Second, know that the emotional warmth you seek, you must give without strings or expectations. Third, well, one and two are enough for now.

Leo/Leo Rising* (July 22-Aug 22): Born during the dog days of summer, being in the "hot seat" is not unknown to you. You are warm and generous, as long as you feel your efforts are appreciated. Once you believe you're being taken for granted, oh, how you roar (or you become silent and withdrawn). Either way, your couple of months' stint of excessive moodiness regarding how much you are valued (or not) comes to an end on September 18. When self-directed Mars enters your sign, you return to your noble, dignified and commanding self in full force. Until November 10, you'll find my messages to you will be centered on your not going overboard in your self-expression. Remember, your ruler (the Sun) burns. So, metaphorically speaking, tell us to put on SPF (whatever the number) depending on your hot quotient. Realize, though, that some of the comments about your alleged overbearing nature come from those who, as it is said, 'playa hate'. You make it (your life) look easy to those who look only superficially.

*The Rising Sign a.k.a. Ascendant represents your approach to life and the mask you wear. Read that sign as well to get additional information on what’s in store this week.
