Cancer/Cancer Rising* (Jun 21-July 21): The last gasp akin to the swan's song chimes in as your symbol for this week. Did you know that a swan's wings brought together can break a human limb or two? Humph, we scoff at the power of emotions (and we pay less for occupations that deal with feelings - teachers, social workers and artists come to mind). Your last breath, so to speak, makes it a purifying one. Clean up the stagnant air in your lungs brought on by staying still when you need to get moving. Know how the swan has already transformed from the ugly-duckling stage. You are not the person you once were. Sure, others may be intimate with your history, but they know very little about your present (and have even less insight into your future). At every winter solstice, you get a new slate of striking the right balance in your peer relationships. Please don't make us an offer we cannot refuse like a godfather keeping score. Instead, offer to make all things new based on a mutual respect.
Leo/Leo Rising* (July 22-Aug 22): As the only fixed fire (spiritual) sign, to know what or who brings you pleasure is paramount. The sun is a star giving its light to heat our Earth. It is only when you want to continually escape the rigors and responsibilities of Earth that your pleasure-seeking nature becomes excessive, superficial and vain. At the tail end of the culminating fire sign of Sagittarius, it is extremely easy for you to go to extremes based on imagined slights or promises of unlimited support. However, acknowledging the limitations of the physical world gives your personality heft and gravitas. To operate with the courage and intention to not engage aggressively in fights or arguments makes your star shine even brighter (if that's possible). Practical application: What role would you play in the current "Occupy Movement"? How can you adorn the truth with an intractable family member so you'll be heard but not dismissed?
Virgo/Virgo Rising* (Aug 22-Sept 22): The past 2,000 years have equated spiritual quests with an ascetic lifestyle. Fortunately, as communication speeds up and out, helping like-minded souls connect, this is no longer true. Being concerned about physical survival can be interfering with a spiritual quest as much as having excessive wealth. The 1 percent may have the resources for the search but no inclination. Your adaptable earth sign lives to serve. Once you have enough, choosing to integrate a spiritual practice increases the joy and lessens the guilt. Contemplate the life of Virgoan Barry White (R.I.P.). He had a rags-to riches story that would rival the novellas of Horatio Alger. It is how you behave as you amass riches that truly matters. This time of year tests your virtuous behavior. Use your quiet answers to deflect our discontent and anger. Once Mercury begins to pick up speed, so will your mind's ability to communicate what you're feeling (particularly about past wounds). When in doubt, sing inside your mind (it's more fun than counting to 10). Answer others when ready, not a moment before. Deliberating on serious issues is not a weakness, no matter who's watching or paying.
Libra/Libra Rising* (Sep 23-Oct 22): Accepting the change of the seasons is a no-brainer. No one plants seeds in late autumn in a temperate weather zone. These two statements apply to your intimate relationships. You must know when to retreat from those whose soil has no capacity to grow from your joyous seeds. It is how you communicate your love, peace and innate belief in the goodness of humanity that acts as a hoe for our fallow Earth. For the seemingly unreachable, it is your persistent optimism and reflection of our needs that behave like a plow over our infertile land. Late fall opens up a cornucopia of thoughts, visions and ideas of what your immediate to human family is capable of producing when we play and work together toward common goals. You are to use your intuitive sense of how to influence the preparation of transformation you know is to come, like squirrels gather nuts for the winter.
